Happy Mother's Day from Us!

posted on

Mom does so much for everyone, all year long...and it's just fair that Mom gets her own day in May! There's so much to do in Mother's Day in Anchorage AK Anchorage, especially if you like being outdoors. Here's a quick list of ideas for a fun, active Mother's Day:

  • The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is one of the most beautiful trails of its kind in the nation. It gently follows  the coast for 11 miles, starting downtown at the Kincaid Park chalet, and is by far Anchorage's most popular trail. Get away from the city to take in a local treasure with its legacy of natural and human history. See the fault line of the '64 quake, hike through fragrant forests, look for moose, and take in spectacular views where you can spot beluga whales and North America's highest peak, Mount McKinley (or Denali) all from a single vantage point.
  • Get a look at Anchorage life as it was 100 years ago at the Oscar Anderson House Museum. Built in 1915,  the Oscar Anderson House is Anchorage's only House Museum and is one of the oldest homes in Anchorage.  Oscar Anderson was an active business leader in Anchorage's early days, and was involved in meat packing, air transportation, newspaper publishing and coal production; by his own account, Anderson was the 18th person to arrive in the "Tent City" of Ship Creek in early 1915.  by his own account, was the 18th person to arrive in the "Tent City" at Ship Creek in early 1915.  Anderson was an active business leader in early Anchorage having interests in meat packing, coal production, air transportation, and newspaper publishing. After his death, Anderson's widow donated the house to the Municipality of Anchorage; it was restored to museum status and is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • From May through September, the Alaska Botanical Garden showcases Alaska's natural beauty with over 150 native plant species and over 1,100 perennials. You can find  two perennial gardens, a formal Herb Garden, an alpine Rock Garden and a Wildflower Trail at the center. The Alaska Botanical Garden is located  just south of Tudor Road, at 4601 Campbell Airstrip Road. Nearby are the north fork of Campbell Creek and Chugach Sate Park.
